Portrait and Self-Portrait Puzzles
16 works
Sixteen masterpieces of faces. Pictures in which artists painted themselves sit alongside pictures of other people: Ginevra de' Benci, the only painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the Americas; Vermeer's Girl with the Red Hat; the two self-portraits Rembrandt painted in 1659 and 1660; the two self-portraits Van Gogh painted in Paris in a straw hat and a gray felt hat; Ducreux's self-portrait with a harp, shown at the 1791 Paris Salon; Degas's pastel of Madame Dietz-Monnin; the Joseon civil official Yun Dongseom, painted right down to his age spots; and the portrait of the Great Master Seosan. With faces, fit the eyes and mouth first and the rest falls into place quickly; paintings with dark backgrounds are easier if you start from the border.
